El Nidaa poultry raising project is supporting numerous poor women in Qena Governorate. Each participant receives 30 chickens, 25 hens and 5 cocks, aged one month immunised and vaccinated against all diseases. The program has followed safe poultry raising guidelines to protect poultry from catching Avian Flu, namely, raising in defined limited spaces using batteries, vaccinating against diseases and using local chicks adapted to weather in Egypt. El Nidaa team also introduced an innovative system, whereby 10% of the produced eggs are donated to the NGO for hatching and distributing the hatched chicks with some feed to additional poor women in the village to increase the number of beneficiaries.

Fatma El Sayed one of the beneficiaries in Al Awsat Qamoola – Naqada, has three sisters that she’s responsible for after her parents died. She affirmed that the backyard poultry raising ensures that the place is clean and that the chickens don’t catch any diseases, in addition to a proper nutrition for the chickens.

Nagat Moussa, another beneficiary at Al Awsat Qamoola village, is a mother of six children without any source of income responsible for their living expenses after her husband abandoned her. She stressed positive role played by the local NGO managing the project in providing all needed technical support; when her chickens caught a disease the NGO provided all veterinary services and the medicines until the problem was surmounted.
